Our mortality still surprises us - and the Web Summit confirms it

When "future" also means our ultimate future, even technology listens.

There is something deeply human about talking about mortality in the midst of robots, artificial intelligence, metaverses, super-apps and solutions that promise to automate every fragment of our daily lives. And it was there - at the heart of the Web Summit 2025 in Lisbon, one of the world's most important technology stages - that Zephorum found, in its presence, even more meaning.

We returned to Sardinia with a new certainty: our digital legacy is no longer a distant issue: it is a contemporary urgency.

We were chosen to represent Italy, Sardinia and a new idea of technology

Being among the startups selected by Sardegna Ricerche and the Italian Trade Agency was a privilege, but above all a responsibility. We brought to the Web Summit something that is rarely heard in tech contexts: a reflection on the value of memory, of digital dignity, of the way we want to be remembered when our online life continues to live beyond us.

And the response was surprising.

Death tech is on the move. But Zephorum continues to anticipate the market.

We met with investors, researchers, makers, journalists and curious people from all over the world. Some told us:

"I had never really thought about my digital identity ... but now that you're talking to me about it, I see how huge the topic is."

Others acknowledged that something is moving: for the first time there were other fledgling death tech startups present, small shoots confirming that the global market is finally beginning to question the post-death digital future.

But one fact was clear to all: our solution for public administrations and businesses is unique, comprehensive, advanced.

A legaltech, ethical, human-centric platform capable of addressing digital legacy management, virtual commemoration, and digital rights protection not as a technical fragment ... but as a social mission.

Strong interest from investors and new partners

Among the most notable outcomes of the Web Summit was the strong interest from new investors and potential international partners. Many recognized the pioneering value of Zephorum and the impact that a solution like ours can have not only on the future of innovation, but also on data governance and digital welfare.

We have initiated promising conversations with European and non-European entities interested in technology collaborations, trials with foreign PAs, integrations with enterprise platforms, acceleration programs and investment opportunities. A clear signal: the market is ready, now more than ever, to seriously discuss digital legacy.

Our space in the Italy Section became a point of dialogue between different cultures, worlds and sensibilities. We spoke with professionals working in cybersecurity, digital welfare, data governance, document management, and collective memory. And the conclusion of many was the same: "It's about time someone thought about it."

A thought from our CEO

Bringing Zephorum to the Web Summit was like opening a window to a place where no one was yet looking. Technology doesn't just have to accelerate: it has to give meaning. And meaning comes through how we guard what's left of us. - Giulia Salis Nioi, Founder & CEO
